Sporting Chefs - 7th October 2010

Founded in 2008 Sporting Chefs brings sporting celebrities into the kitchen in a battle of the pans to raise money for the BBC Children in Need charity. You thought they were competitive on the field - you haven't seen anything yet!

Meet the Sporting Chefs

Cooking and entertaining you this year we have the following sporting celebrities:

Gary Speed

Gary Speed

Gary was the first footballer ever to reach 500 Premiership appearances, holding the record for the most appearances in the toughest football league in the world – scoring in every season of top flight football he played.

Made captain of his national team, he represented his country 85 times – more times than any other outfield player.

Gary enjoyed the glory days of four clubs; Leeds United, Everton, Newcastle, and Bolton Wanderers.

He is currently a key member of high flying Sheffield United.

Chris Adams

Chris Adams

A front-foot bruiser, Adams veered from the ferocious to the fallible. He was one of the most explosive batsmen in the county game and loves to hit the ball in the air. In 2006 he led Sussex to double success, winning the C&G Trophy and the Championship. At the end of the season a few eyebrows were raised when he announced he was moving to Yorkshire ... less than a fortnight later even more were raised when he made a U-turn and decided to stay at Hove and he won back-to-back Championships in 2006 and 2007.

Jamie Baulch

Jamie Baulch

Sprint athlete Jamie Baulch won the 400 metres gold medal at the World Indoor Championships in 1999, and silver medals in the 4x400m relay at both the Olympic Games and World Championships. A star performer during Sporting Chefs 2008 keeping a cool head and getting the food out on time.

John Beresford

John Beresford

Born in Sheffield, John Beresford played for clubs Manchester City, Barnsley, Portsmouth, Newcastle United, Southampton and Birmingham City. He is most famous for his Newcastle United spell between 1992 and 1998. Making a fine tag-team partnership with David Hirst at last years Sporting Chefs event he kept spirits high in the kitchen and extracted a massive amount of money as auctioneer.

Clinton Woods

Clinton Woods

Training on the Gleadless Valley estate in Sheffield Clinton is one of the finest boxers in the UK. He is a former IBF light heavyweight world champion. He has also fought for the WBC light heavyweight title and has held the British, Commonwealth and European titles. I don't think he will receive too many complaints about his cooking!!

Brian Deane

Brian Deane

Reigning Sporting Chefs champion (with Simon Tracey), Brian Deane returns to defend his title. His commitment in the kitchen reflects his playing career at Sheffield United, Leeds United, Benfica, Middlesborough and 3 caps for England. Brian scored the first ever goal in the English Premier League after just 5 minutes against Manchester United.

David Hirst

David Hirst

Joining Sheffield Wednesday from Barnsley David Hirst remains an idol to Owls fans to this day and gained 3 caps for England (scoring once). David returns to Sporting Chefs again in 2009 after an excellent performance in the kitchen and as auctioneer.

Simon Tracey

Simon Tracey

Returning champion (alongside Brian Deane) brings another pair of steady hands to the kitchen arena. Starting out as goal-keeper at Wimbledon Simon played most of his career at Sheffield United with 382 appearances and was an ever-present fixture in United's promotion season of 1989-90 and remained first-choice in Division One.

Tasha Danvers

Tasha Danvers

Tasha Danvers is the 2008 400m Hurdles Olympic Bronze Medallist. Tasha is an amazing athlete with a great potential to be on the podium again at the London Olympic games in 2012.   Inspiring others to their own personal success is one of Tasha’s passions outside of Track & Field.

Claire Taylor

Claire Taylor

Claire represents England and plays for Berkshire at county level. Claire made her test debut for England against India in 1999.

2005 saw he knock a 136 against Sri Lanka in the World Cup in South Africa (Average 73 in the 5 match round-robin)

Her 156* at Lord's against India in 2006 is the highest ODI score on that ground by any player beating one by Viv Richards.
